Flour Mill Lofts - Denver, Colorado

Description:
Two phase historic renovation in the Central Platte Valley. Phase 1 has 17 units and Phase 2 has 30 units. The Flour Mill Lofts face Cuernavaca Park just north of 20th Street, the former Pride of the Rockies flour mill is the last remnant of an industry that flourished in the Central Platte Valley in the early 20th century, thanks to Denver\'s role as a regional rail hub. Eight mills operated in the area in 1930, but the glory days were over by the end of the decade as a result of the Depression and competition from larger mills elsewhere. Pride of the Rockies was owned by John K. Mullen, an Irish immigrant who rose from mill hand to flour baron and one of Denver\'s greatest benefactors, as founder of a home for boys, builder of three churches and major supporter of St. Joseph Hospital and the University of Denver. The building, abandoned in the 1950s, was home to skinheads, drifters and graffiti artists before being converted into some of the valley\'s first loft-style condos. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
